Arsenal News Round Up – Lars Bender, Benzema, Rabiot & Illaramendi

The Gunners have seen the Premier League title eluded them for little over a decade. In the penultimate season, Wenger thrilled the fans of Arsenal with the acquisition of the most expensive player in his rank, Mesut Ozil, from Real Madrid, he followed in same stead when he lured Sanchez from Barcelona last season. It is worth mentioning that both seasons before this saw Arsenal won the FA Cup and Community shield back to back which was attributed to the signing of the aforementioned world class players.

However, this season, Petr Cech is the only addition to the Gunners squad with several starlets sent on loan already.

We take a look at gossips about Arsenal in  the transfer market hitherto;

Lars Bender

The 26-year-old Germany international had been previously linked to Arsenal. Following Coquelin’s poor show-offs in the League this season, Arsenal sent scout to watch Bender who plays the defensive midfield position for Leverkusen, in their champions league play offs as Leverkusen lost to Lazio. Bender had an average of 2.5 tackles per match last season and it is thought that he will do well for the Gunners in that position.

Asier Illarramendi:

As per goal, the Gunners turned down the offer to sign the creative midfielder who had 92% pass completion rate for Madrid last season. The 25-year-old Spain international fell down the selection pecking order of Benitez following the acquisition of Mateo Kovacic. However, the Gunners have a pile of grafters in their midfield.

Karim Benzema

The Gunners are willing to make Benzema the most expensive player in their ranks following the latest offer of £46million for the prolific forward. Benzema remains Wenger’s prime target of this season as evidenced by his resolve in the players pursuit despite previous turned down offers. It is understood that Florentino Perez is considering to accept Arsenal’s bid for the striker.

Adrian Rabiot

Finally, Wenger is known for nurturing players to stardom. The Gunners seem to have identified PSG’s Rabiot, 20, as a potential world-class midfielder. This follows from the players impressive performances for the French club. Rabiot had an impressive 89% pass accuracy last season. He might be in the long term plans of Wenger as the Likes of Rosicky and Cazorla are getting close to retirement.
