Arsenal News Round Up – Luiz Adriano, Monreal, Vidal & Ezequiel Garay
The transfer window started slowly for the Gunners but has gathered pace in recent weeks as news of several deals filter in.
Here we take a look at the major developments in the transfer market concerning the Gunners.
Arturo Vidal is reportedly edging closer to a move to the Gunners as several outlets are claiming that the North London club have agreed a £21 million fee for acquiring the services of the 28-year-old Chilean International. The deal looks likely to be concluded as early as next week, especially as Juventus have already secured a replacement in the form of Sami Khedira.Vidal has allegedly agreed personal terms on a five-year deal with the Gunners.
On the departure front , reports are surfacing that Athletic Bilbao are preparing a bid worth €8 million for 29-year-old Spanish left-back Nacho Monreal. Although the player established himself as first choice left back last season ahead of Kieran Gibbs, Wenger is reportedly willing to listen to offers for the player. In the same development , the club are planning to replace him with highly rated 20-year-old Augsburg full back Abdul Baba Rahman, who is also coveted by Manchester City and Chelsea among others. The youngster’s agent has allegedly flown to London to hold talks with Arsenal in a deal reportedly worth £14 million.
In a sensational development from Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk have made it clear through their manager that star striker Luiz Adriano is available for as low as £5.5 million this summer. The striker has only has a year left on his contract, and Shakhtar are therefore keen to recoup some fee for their all-time leading goalscorer rather than risk losing him for free next summer. Arsenal are reportedly interested and this deal appears a no brainer at the mooted price.
Lastly, Arsenal have been linked with a £13 million move for 28-year-old Argentina International and Zenit St. Petersburg centre-back Ezequiel Garay. The player is rumoured to be disillusioned with life in Russia and is willing to move on to a bigger club and league. Wnger , for his part , wants an alternative to Per Mertesacker, and the long term Manchester United transfer target fits the bill perfectly.
