Arsenal One Of 3 Clubs Ready To Move For Karim Benzema

Arsenal has been mentioned as one of the clubs that is currently following the progress of the Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.

These claims is according to French daily Le 10 Sport, the paper claims that Arsenal, Paris-Saint Germain and Juventus are amongst the club that would move for the French international anytime he becomes available.

However these clubs boast several strikers at the moment, which would make it impossible for them to consider signing the Real Madrid striker. Arsenal have Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez, Oliver Giroud and Yaya Sanogo to call on, Juventus have Carlos Teves, Alvaro Morata and Fernando Llorente, while PSG have the powerhouses of Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. When these players are considered, the chances that these clubs would move for Karim Benzema is very improbable.

Karim Benzema was initially at the precipices at Real Madrid towards the end of last season, when speculations trailed his continuous stay at Real Madrid. However, he put paid to any speculation surrounding his future when he signed a five year extension to his contract after the World Cup in Brazil, and his form has been one of the bright spots of Real Madrid’s season with his six goals in nine league games this term.

Karim Benzema has a long history of been linked to Arsenal. When he was with Lyon in France, he was repeatedly linked to Arsenal, and prior to his move to the Santiago Bernabeu, he was still linked to the club. Yet his stay at Real Madrid has been laced with continuous link to the Emirates just like this particular story.

A signing of Karim Benzema status is a long way off from ever happening though, because he is fully settled at Real Madrid now, and Arsenal’s need lies elsewhere at the moment. The club has several defensive issues to contend with, and a signing to plug the hole in defence has been mooted in January.

Obviously, there would be the odd mention of ‘oh! Not another Karim Benzema story. Yet it is exactly what this is at moment as the origin of this present speculation comes from the French press.

Looking at the present make-up of the Arsenal squad, Arsene Wenger is very unlikely to sign another striker anytime soon, he spent a combined £48 million to sign both Sanchez and Welbeck in one summer, and this is in addition to the £42 million spent on Mesut Ozil in 2013. With such monies spent on attacking players when the defensive side of the team is imbalance, it is obvious that attention would shift to that area of the squad as Arsene Wenger would move to address the defensive imbalance in the coming transfer windows.
