Arsenal Plan January Move For South American Striker – Not Cavani

According to metro, Arsenal are plotting a move for Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri in the winter transfer window. It seems Danny Welbeck’s injury setback could force Arsene Wenger into making a signing in January.  The England International was expected to return to the Arsenal side last week but a recent undertaken scan showed that his injury had not fully healed and ruled him out for a further three months.

Nevertheless, no matter Wenger’s motive, Arsenal are reported to be in pole position to land Jonathan Calleri. The 21 year old who rose to prominence after scoring a spectacular rabona goal against Quilmes in July is also being touted by the likes of Napoli and Palermo.  The 21 year old Argentine faces a tough decision on choosing the best path to take for his career as he contemplates a switch to Europe. The Boca Juniors is highly rated in Argentina and his performance in the Argentine league is starting to attract a lot of attention in Europe.

Jonathan Calleri has bagged 13 goals in 36 games for Boca Juniors but the 21 year old’s goal scoring record does not do his abilities justice. With Arsenal’s record of being linked to every possible target and failing to sign at least one out of them, many Arsenal fans might find it hard to pay attention to this type of news.

However, Wenger love for South-American forwards could see Arsenal actually turn this speculation into a reality. Calleri also being young again is also an added temptation for Arsene Wenger as the French manager loves signing young players to groom them into stars. The asking price for Calleri should be relatively moderate, the only problem faced with the signing of the Argentine is securing a work permit which should eventually be sorted out by the Gunners.
