Arsenal are not done in the transfer window and their name have been bandied with one top player after the other. With each debunked story comes a new one with a new perspective. The most recent is that Arsenal are in pursuit of Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain. If this story is to be believed, then Arsenal will be forking out a great deal of money.
That they have a Great War chest is not in doubt, but whether Monsieur Arsene wenger would be willing to go as far as Napoli are holding out for is a different matter entirely. Wenger in recent past has shamed detractors who see him as miserly and stingy by paying big for players. He first raided Real Madrid a few seasons ago and made away with Mesut Özil after leaving behind £42.4 million. This to the delight of Florentino Perez. A year later he was back in Spain, this time in Barcelona and was able to prise away Alexis Sanchez for a fee of £35 million.
Gonzalo Higuain is a different kettle of fish and according to the Guardian, Wenger will have to cough up a whopping £67 million that Napoli are demanding. According to John Hartson, Arsenal must break the bank and spend big if they must compete for the Premier League.
AC Milan and Liverpool seem to have their sights on him too.
