Arsenal Set To BEAT Liverpool To The Signing Of UCL Quarter Finalist

Having signed Petr Cech earlier in the summer from Chelsea and sending Wojciech Szczesny out on loan to AS Roma, Arsenal are preparing a move for another goalkeeper.

The Gunners are surprisingly plotting a hijack on Liverpool’s goalkeeper target Roberto Jimenez Gago, as per Daily Star. The source cites Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb who claims Arsenal are ready to launch a swoop for the 29-year old Olympiakos shot-stopper.

The former Atletico Madrid glovesman who also a reported target for England’s most successful club in Europe, Liverpool, but Arsenal look as though they have moved ahead of Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Signing the Spanish goalie does not mean Arsene Wenger is ready to demote Cech as his number one option in goal. The Chelsea legend had a disappointing game against West Ham last week, as his errors led to the two goals which saw the Hammers defeat Arsenal last Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Wenger opted not to blame Cech: “I can’t see many individual performances today so it’s difficult to single someone out.

“It was a collective one. I think there are many things to say about that. I knew that if the delivery was good, we would be in trouble before the free kick was taken.

“We have enough experience at the back. If you look at our back line, I think the youngest age is 30.”

Cech’s arrival saw Szczesny leave for a Serie A adventure on loan with Roma, with the 33-year old Czech taking up the No.33 shirt and installed as first choice and David Ospina second choice. Should Gago move to the Emirates, he is likely to be a third choice goalie as Emiliano Martinez has also been loaned.
