Arsenal Set To Trigger Release Clause Of 29 Year Old Spaniard

Spanish Newspaper Marca have an interesting claim on some Arsenal transfer business. They say the premier league club have made an offer to sign Roberto Jimenez.

He is a 29 year old goalkeeper who currently plays for Greek side Olympiacos, and Marca say that Arsene Wenger wants the player to complete a trio of goalkeepers with Petr Cech and David Ospina at Arsenal.

Jimenez has been an Atletico Madrid player three different times during his career but only as a back-up goalkeeper, and despite those spells he has failed to make more than 10 appearances for the Atletico first team, although he featured regularly for the Atletico B team. Jimenez has had spells with Benfica and Zaragoza and he also represented Spain at all the youth levels but failed to then make the cut.

Marca are saying Greek Champions Olympiacos have told Arsenal to met the players’s 6 million euros clause and they can get him,it is a small amount relatively. Marca claim Arsenal have submitted an important offer and the transfer could be completed soon.

Having loaned out Wojciech Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez this summer, bringing someone in wouldn’t be a huge surprise.

At 29, Jimenez would welcome the chance to represent a club as big as Arsenal and will be happy with a bit part role alongside Petr Cech.
