Arsenal star asks Mourinho to sack these four overpaid stars

Arsenal legend and football pundit Paul Merson has urged Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to organize a massive clear out from his squad in the January transfer window. Merson believes that it’s necessary for Mourinho to get rid of some of his stars if he wants to revive the Blues’ faltering season.

The former Arsenal star thinks that Mourinho shouldn’t persist with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Loic Remy, John Obi Mikel and Radamel Falcao anymore. The London side are currently struggling in the 14th spot in the Premier League and sit just two points above the relegation zone.

Merson wrote in his column for the Daily Star: “Chelsea need a January clear-out – so they can break the bank for Harry Kane. And I would start by getting rid of Cesc Fabregas. He was brilliant when he first came back to England but hasn’t been good enough for months. They’ve been carrying him. Then there’s John Obi Mikel. Doesn’t he want to play football? They’ve been trying to get rid of him for months, but he’s still there picking up a cheque.”

“Radamel Falcao hasn’t worked either; that was a lazy signing in my opinion. He was the best centre-forward in the world once, but he’s a shadow of that player. And Loic Remy should go too, he’s just not good enough to play in a top-four team.”

The most notable mention in Merson’s list is of Cesc Fabregas. The former Arsenal and Barcelona star was instrumental in Chelsea’s double winning season, but this season has been an absolute fall from grace for the Spanish international.

The 28-year-old has provided only two assists from 15 league appearances, and he is yet to open his goalscoring account this season. Meanwhile, Falcao has only scored one goal since his arrival in the summer, whereas Mikel and Remy have also failed to impress in their bit-part roles.
