Arsenal Table £21m Bid For World Cup Winner, Wenger Keen On Him

Arsenal are readying a shock cut-price bid of €29m – which equates to £21m – for Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday, as per the Daily Express.

Draxler is one of the most highly-rated youngster in the Bundesliga, and the aforementioned source also claim Arsenal Premier league rivals Manchester United are also keen on the German ace. The 21-year old has been plagued by injuries and he sat out most part of last season, registering only one assist in 15 Bundesliga appearances.

It is claimed Italian Serie A champions Juventus are also providing competition for the Gunners regarding Draxler’s situation. However, Arsenal still have a considerable chance of signing Julian Draxler from Schalke 04 this summer, as frontrunners Juventus are still wavering regarding signing the attacking midfielder.

The Serie A champions have not really decided to sign Draxler, after bringing in Juan Cuadrado on loan from Chelsea. There were claims Juventus have agreed personal terms with the Schalke star but Massimiliano Allegri’s side are yet to decide whether to go ahead with the move. Juan Cuadrado joined the Turin side from Chelsea yesterday and it was suggested Juventus have dropped their interest in Draxler, as well as Mario Gotze of Bayern Munich due to the Colombian’s arrival.

The World Cup winner is now fit again after recovering from the injury and has featured in all of Schalke’s Bundesliga games so far this season, bagging a goal in the 1-1 draw with SV Darmstadt. Draxler has made over 100 appearances for the Veltins Arena Landlords, having progressed through the club’s youth system.

Although Arsenal have 7 points already from four games in the Premier League, as they laboured to a win over Newcastle United courtesy of Fabricio Coloccini’s own goal. The Gunners could make do with Draxler’s versatility, as the World Cup winner can play a number of roles across the forward line.

Draxler can play as an attacking midfielder, a winger or a centre-forward. Arsene Wenger can turn the 21-year old into a top striker, just like he did to Robin van Persie who also did not start out as a striker. It is now left for Wenger and Co. to move swiftly to table an offer for Draxler, as Juventus may still decide to sign the player and if they do they have a better chance to sign the Schalke star than Arsenal.

Although Wenger has said he is not looking to sign any other player this summer, but it is believed Draxler is a possibility.
