Reports emanating from Spain say that the Gunners have made a u-turn on signing Karim Benzema and have turned their attention to France for PSG’s forward Edison Cavani. The Emirate outfit are preparing a bid of £35.5m for the Uruguayan goal poacher.
Last season, the 27-year-old attacker was at his best ever for club as he scored two more goals better than his penultimate season. He scored 18 Ligue 1 goals and helped PSG claimed all the available titles in France. Although, the Champions League evaded the Ligue 1 champions last season.
The Uruguayan now tops the Gunners transfer target list as the best alternative to karim Benzema. The boss of Real Madrid seems to favour Ronaldo as his striker but Benzema is likely to remain at the Bernabeu and fight for a place in the attack of the Los Blancos side. This is according to reports coming from Spain.
Cavani was linked to Arsenal during his days at Napoli , this followed from his 33-goals per season with the Italian club. He drew attention from top clubs in Europe as well but eventually landed in France.
Wenger once described Cavani as a beast, and he believes the player can be instrumental in helping the Gunners win the EPL that has eluded them for more than a decade.
With the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG, Cavani is played from the flanks and he has countless times let out his frustration as he prefers the centre forward position. This may be an opportunity for Arsenal to make him realize his dream.
