Arsenal Target To Fly In For Medical On Monday, But He Will Sign For Chelsea Not Arsenal
Baba Rahman will be a Chelsea player anytime soon as he has edged closer to a Stamford Bridge move. However, this will only happen if the Blues manage to settle at an agreement with Augsburg.
The Blues have reached an agreement regarding personal terms with highly-rated left back, Baba Rahman, as per his agent Sascha Empacher, and the player will reportedly sign a five-year deal worth Ā£27,000 a week.
Baba has been the subject of inquiries from a host of Europe top clubs including Chelsea, Real Madrid, Roma, Juventus and Arsenal, following his sterling displays for the Augsburg last term. However, the Blues now appear to have shown keener interest as Jose Mourinho wants the Ghanaian left-back to replace Filipe Luis, who completed his return to Atletico Madrid a couple of weeks ago.
Luis failed to impress in his first season at Chelsea and he was sold back, with Mourinho declaring later that a replacement will be brought in for the Brazilian. Baba – who has had a meteoric rise since joining from Greuther Furth – is the one pinpointed by the Portuguese boss and the move appears closer now.
“It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement,” Empacher told Germany newspaper Bild. “We on our side are agreed.”
Before Empacher claimed his client has agreed personal terms with the Blues, an Augsburg club official who has knowledge about the move had revealed: “Rahman wants to be at Chelsea but the usual fineprints are what we’re looking at. It’s about what we can offer, tax components and things like that.”
Reports suggest Augsburg would accept nothing less than Ā£18m at which they value their left and that the deal has been stalling because the Premier League club’s offer is short of what the Bundesliga outfit are expecting.
The only stumbling block according to Empasher is for both clubs to expected to hopefully find an agreement for the transfer to go through. Chelsea, especially need to quickly seal this move in order for Baba to train and adapt to the styles and movements of his new team-mates. For the player and the Premier League champions a huge benefit awaits if this move is done as soon as possible.
In the meantime, Augsburg have signed Phillip Max this week, signalling that they are resigned to losing Baba already. The 21-year old Ghana international defender made more tackles than any other left back in the German top division last term. A stroke of genius from Chelsea!
