Belgian Star to Sign for Chelsea & Will Meet with Eden Hazard in One Team
Chelsea believe they are the frontrunners to sign Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Alex Witsel in the summer but face competition from London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs.
The Belgium international has attracted interest from both Stamford Bridge and White Hart Lane will be looking forward to leave Russia in the January transfer window and may move to either of the Premier League clubs.
According to Daily Mail, the Barclays Premier League champions had enquired about the player in the summer about a £23 million transfer but the move failed.
Chelsea could now lose their chance to secure Witsel’s services to their London rivals, Tottenham, who have arose as favorites for his signature because of the midfielder’s desire of playing Champions League football, a chance which is possible to be best offered by the north London club who sit fourth on the table after 20 games, compared to the Blue who are 14th.
Zenit signed Witsel from Benefica in 2012 at £30 million and would be interested to recover as much as possible. Although they won the last season’s title, the midfielder has not been a primary member to the team at Zenit, playing only 15 games in their title-winning stretch last season.
Besides, it is claimed that AC Milan are also still linked with the Belgium international after showing much interest in him in August. However, the lure of the Premier League could encourage him to choose England over Italy.
