Brazilian Championship Roundup: Palmeiras start their defence with victory as Fluminense and Santos share five goals

Yesterday we had the first round of the Brazilian Championship. We will summarise the main matches of the round and the results of the others!

FLAMENGO 1-1 ATLÉTICO-MG

The first game of the Championship had two favorites to the title face each other in front of crowd of over 50,000 people, which is excellent in Brazil. Maracanã saw a poor first half with few chances but a goal from Matheus Savio opened the scoring for Flamengo. The second half was very different, with chances for both sides, and Elias leveled things up. An interesting moment came in the game as a professional debut was handed to Vinicius Junior. He, who is getting interest from Real Madrid, played 10 minutes but due to nervousness barely touched the ball.

PALMEIRAS 4-0 VASCO

The current Brazilian Champions and the favourites to win the title easily won against Vasco, who have returned to the first division. It was 4-0 and could have been more, with Palmeiras dominating for the second debut of coach Cuca. The goals were scored by Jean and the Venezuelan Guerra in the first half and in the second half two goals of the Colombian Borja.

FLUMINENSE 3-2 SANTOS

Maybe the best game of the round. Both teams played on the attack and the game had many goals because of this. Fluminense scored first through Henrique Dourado’s goal, but Santos pressed and still in the first half got the equalizer through good left back play by Victor Ferraz, but at the end of the first half, Henrique Dourado scored another goal from a penalty spot to make it 2-1 at the break. Fluminense returned better in the second half and extended their lead through the Ecuadorian Sornoza. Despite having good opportunities, Santos only managed to score at the end of the match with Vladimir Hernandez.

CRUZEIRO 1-0 SÃO PAULO

It was supposed to be an excellent game, but it turned out to be one of the worst of the round. With both teams wandering a lot, the game had few scoring chances. Cruzerio played better than their opponents and took advantage of São Paulo’s defence as Argentine, Ramon Abila, scored the winning goal.

GRÊMIO 2-0 BOTAFOGO

The game of two teams that are in the Libertadores Cup, showed the strength of a very strong Grêmio side. With great integration, exchanging of passes accompanied with good movement, the team could have made it a thrashing but still won with high superiority. Two Ramiro goals, one in the first and the other in the second half secured the win.
