The Italian international has become a fringe player at the Juventus Stadium, and has only made one appearance for the Serie A giant this season. His lack of football with the Italian Champions has frustrated the 27-year-old, and he has revealed that he is currently assessing his future with the club.
He said: “I’m not resigned (to being a substitute), it is not in my character. I have to evaluate many things but I’m not thinking about it now. The season has only just begun. I hope to be able to add my contribution (to the team).
Liverpool, alongside Arsenal, and Spurs are all considering a move for the 27-year old, who is interested in a move to the Premier League. Giovinco’s current contract expires at the end of the season, which means he could be leaving the Old Lady on a free transfer at the end of the season.
When asked this week about the possibility of leaving Juventus, Giovinco told reporters: “There are things to evaluate and at the end of the year I will consider whether or not to continue with Juve. We will see as times goes on.”
While there are several other clubs closely monitoring the 27 year old, he is most likely to land in England where he will continue to ply his trade as a footballer.
His agent, Andrea D’Amico, recently criticized Juventus for failing to show interest in his client by not offering him a new contract earlier. He told reporters: “I do not understand how Marotta and Juventus could decide to lose a fantastic player like Giovinco for free.”
In an interview last season, D’Amico hinted at Liverpool’s interest in a possible transfer.
“I am not surprised that Arsenal and Tottenham are being linked, but they are not the only clubs. Olympiacos, Monaco and Liverpool – there are many other clubs, as Giovinco is appreciated everywhere.” He said.
Liverpool’s rekindled interest in ‘formica atomica’ (Atomic ant), as Giovinco is fondly referred to among many fans in Turin means there are possible chances of him committing to the Reds at the end of the season, particularly after making it known that he desires to play in the Premier League.
Giovinco has made only one single appearance for Juventus this season, and last year, Antonio Conte granted him a mere 566 minutes of Serie A pitch time, all of which implies that he (Giovinco) is surplus to requirements.
Despite barely playing him, Conte seems to rate Giovinco highly, and in a recent interview, enthused:
“Giovinco has incredible quality. He needs to believe in himself even more and realise he can make the difference at Juventus the same way he did at Parma.”
Giovinco’s contract is to expire in June 2015 but the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool would rather prefer to sign him in January before Juventus change their mind. The interest shown by Liverpool suggests Borini would likely replaced Giovinco should he decide to choose Liverpool above other clubs. Chelsea is also reported to join in the chase of signing the Atomic Ant.
