Brutal details unveiled – Sir Alex Ferguson responsible for Arsenal signing United top striker

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was told by none other than Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson that he would be crazy not to sign Danny Welbeck in 2014.

Louis Van Gaal has come under some intense scrutiny for letting the 25 year old England striker join Arsenal, especially since Manchester United have seemed a little lacking up front this season. Marcus Rashford has made his breakthrough but Rooney has been out of action through injury and Anthony martial playing in a more creative role.

According to Squawka, Sir Alex helped Welbeck on his 16 million pound deal away from Old Trafford by advising Wenger of the England striker’s work-rate and pace. Welbeck was eager to go as Arsenal had been his childhood club and all it took was the nod from Wenger.

Sir Alex was reported to have told Arsene that you only need to tell Welbeck something once and he learns very quickly. Welbeck himself has had an indifferent season plagued by injuries, but always comes up with a goal when he plays and looks set for a bright future.

Former Manchester United players such as Scholes and Neville lined up to lay the criticism on the clubs decision to let him go as some of the new faces brought in have not played particularly well; Falcao and Memphis Depay being the prime examples.

Sir Alex will always be a legend in the eyes of United fans but it remains to be seen what they will think of this revelation.
