Chelsea are set to battle it out with Man Utd for the signing of Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi in the summer transfer window. The 23-year old is one of the most coveted strikers in Serie A, and recent reports have linked with a move away from the club.
Italian source Tuttosport has previously claimed that the Red Devils are interested in the Argentina international and are prepared to offer huge money for his services.
Meanwhile, another Italian source Corriere dello Sport has claimed that United’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in the player and are intent on bringing him to Stamford Bridge in summer.
Interests from multiple clubs could ignite a bidding war of the striker in the transfer window. Icardi was Serie A’s top scorer last season with 22 goals. However, he has failed to reach the heights of the previous campaign this season and has managed only 11 league goals in 24 appearances.
He recently expressed his desire to stay at San Siro beyond the summer and both Premier League clubs will face a difficult task of convincing him to a Premier League club.
“I’ve had a few offers but I want to stay here and lift trophies with this club,” he told Inter Channel.
“I’m the captain and I want to achieve great things with Inter.”
