Chelsea Defender Reveals What Mourinho Told Them At Half Time Against Arsenal

Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has exhumed some details on how the Blues were able to conquer their arch rivals Arsenal in a Premier League game on Saturday, despite the Stamford Bridge club’s early season woes.

Boss Jose Mourinho was at his usual best of motivating and instilling confidence in each players before every game. As per Zouma, Mourinho told them [the players] to forget about their position on the league on focus on beating Arsenal on that day.

The Blues were able to register a much-needed win over the Gunners and also recorded their first clean sheet in the Premier League, as they reduced the 11 points deficit separating them and current league leaders Manchester City to 8, after the Citizens lost 1-2 at home to West Ham United later on Saturday.

Zouma who got the first goal for the Blues with a well-placed header was also delighted with the clean sheet.

“We don’t have pressure in the dressing room,” Zouma told Chelsea TV.

“We know who we are and we just had some bad results since the beginning of the season, but now we showed who we really are and what we can do.

“The boss said before the game: ‘Forget the table – play the game to win and to show them that they are going to lose.

“Together we have to stay concentrated and keep improving. We have to work hard every day in training.

“We are very happy because we won two games and kept two clean sheets but we know there is still a long way to go, the year is really long, so we have to keep working.

“We have good defenders – I can play, John Terry can play, Gaz did well as well. So now we just have to recover our defensive organisation from last year. It doesn’t matter who plays, we have to just keep going and keep clean sheets.”

Zouma, 20, joined the Blues from Saint Etienne in January 2013 but had to finish the season with the French outfit before moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014. He has since won the league title and the Capital One cup with Chelsea and has also been tipped for a great future in the game.
