Chelsea Drop Interest In John Stones But Plan Signing Of £35m Powerful CB

Having conceded 12 goals in 5 games in the Premier League, Chelsea are reportedly prepared to make a move for Valencia defender Jose Gaya in the January transfer window. The 20 year old impressive performances for Valencia earned him a lot of attention from major clubs from Europe, with many clubs including Chelsea linked with a move for the Spaniard.

Much to the dismay of these clubs, Jose Gaya signed a new five year deal with the club ahead of Champions League football with Valencia. The contract extension will definitely increase the value of Jose Gaya but Chelsea Boss Jose Mourinho will be unfazed by the price tag of Jose Gaya due to the defensive problems being encountered by Chelsea.

Chelsea’s defensive crisis has made Mourinho desperate and the Portuguese will not be bothered about coughing out a large sum of 48 million Euros for Jose Gaya, which also happens to be the release clause for the Valencia defender. Gaya proved be an important part of Valencia’s engine last season as he helped them clinch a Champions League spot, playing a total of 35 matches and scoring just a goal.

Jose Gaya has risen through the ranks of Valencia’s youth system to become one of the hottest prospects in Spain at the moment. His La Liga debut was a home loss against Atletico Madrid in April 2014. The Spaniard has already won over a lot of fans at Valencia including the manager who seen it fit to play the 20 year old in two out of three matches this season.
