Chelsea Get GREENLIGHT To Complete Signing Of £34m Rated Manchester United Target

Everton are reported lining up a move for Swansea defender and Captain Ashley Williams should John Stones depart Merseyside this summer, as reported by Metro.

Stones, 21, has been heavily linked with a switch to Chelsea, although the Toffees are holding out for a larger sum and have rejected bids of £20 millions and £26 million from the Blues. And while Everton remain determined to keep hold of Stones, ESPN FC report they are as well preparing for his likely departure by keeping close tab on Ashley Williams.

The Everton manager worked with Williams during his time in charge at the Liberty Stadium and is said to be keen on a switch for the Welshman who he sees as a suitable replacement.

The Blues have identified the young England International defender as one of their priority target.

Williams has been regularly linked with a move away from Swansea in the last few seasons, and he could be tempted to reunite with his former boss Martinez at Everton.

But report has it that Swansea boss Garry Monk has quashed such rumour of Williams ever exiting the club, and believes he will still be at the club at the start of the new season.

Having released Antolin Alcarez and Sylvain Distin, this summer Martinez may decide to go into the transfer market for defensive reinforcements even if Stones stays or goes.
