Chelsea News – Reliable CB Arrives For Medical, £28.4m Fee Agreed, Shocking Signing Imminent

If a report by Skysports Spanish pundit Guillem Balague is anything to go by, Chelsea may have been presented a golden chance of signing a centre back after it seems Everton have refused the Blues the chance of signing John Stones. In the last few weeks, Chelsea have been linked to couple of centre backs in the transfer window and as a matter of fact have had two bids rejected for John Stones.

One of the players who has been linked to the Blues is Valencia and Argentina international centre back Nicolas Otamendi. On Saturday, news broke that the Argentine is on his way to England to undergo a medical and complete a surprising move to Manchester City. Coming weeks after everyone thought Manchester United would be getting the player.

However, if Balague is to be believed, Manchester City may not be getting the player after Valencia asked the citizens to cough up more cash before the can sign the player. According to Balague, both City and Valencia had agreed a transfer fee of £28.4m plus Eliaquim Mangala on loan to Valencia, however, Manchester City manager does not want to release Mangala on loan after the Frenchman impressed for City in the two games played so far.

This according to Balague has forced Valencia to ask the citizens to pay more cash for their star defender. This report if true means Chelsea or any other club for that matter can move in for the player. Although Otamendi has a release clause of £35.5 million reportedly inserted into his contract, it is believed Valencia will listen to offers in the region of £28 million if they can get another centre back on loan.

With Zouma in need of regular first team action, Jose Mourinho could just send the French defender on loan to valencia plus cash in order to sign Otamendi. He is available cheaper than Stones and has much more experience than Stones having played in the Champions league, La Liga, Copa America and the world cup for Argentina.
