Chelsea picked this manager as Mourinho replacement, will be hired if Chelsea fails against Porto
Chelsea have already lined up the replacement for current manager Jose Mourinho. In an exclusive, The Independent reports that the club hierarchy wants Italian manager Antonio Conte to replace the Portuguese if he fails to turn around the Blues’ season. The Blues sit just three points above the relegation zone at the moment and will face Porto in the must-win Champions League game on Wednesday.
The report claims that Mourinho currently has the backing of club owner Roman Abramovich, but a failure to secure a spot in the knockout stages in the continental competition might force the Russian’s hand into sacking his manager. Conte, who won three Serie A titles with Juventus, is currently the manager of the Italian national team and is unlikely to quit his job before the Euros in the summer.
He would be more than willing to succeed Mourinho in the summer, but according to the report his stance may change if the Chelsea job becomes available in the coming months. Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is another candidate to take over at the Stamford Bridge, but he is likely to move to Manchester City when his contract with Bayern Munich expires in the summer.
