Chelsea Plan January Signing Of “New Drogba”

As reported by the Sunday People via the Mirror, Chelsea are maintaining an early lead in the race to sign Sion striker Moussa Konate in when the transfer window reopens.

The broadsheet revealed that Konate [rated £10m] has also courted interest from several Premier League clubs including the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Westham and Everton but, Chelsea seem to be frontrunners for the service of the Senegalese player.

Konate, 22, famously scored 5 goals for Senegal at the London 2012 Olympics, including a goal against Team GB. He joined Sion from Russian outfit Krasnodar last year and despite his age, he has gathered experience around Europe having played for the likes of Serie A club Genoa and Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv. He is also a full time Senegalese international with 10 caps.

Re interests from the Premier League for his client, Konate’s agent Antoine Issa Kossoko said: Lots of English clubs are interested in Moussa – Chelsea and Arsenal scouts are keeping an eye on him – but he is not obsessed with the Premier League and will consider good offers from Germany, Spain and England.

“Hannover, Mainz and Bruges were keen on him this summer, offering up to £6m. But Sion said they would not sell less than £10m.”

Konate has made a spectacular start to the Europa League this term, netting both of Sion’s goal in the 2-1 home win over Rubin Kazan on Thursday night.

Chelsea defeated London rivals Arsenal 2-0 last Saturday, with goals from defender Kurt Zouma and attacking midfielder Eden Hazard, leaving the Blues’ strikers with just 2 goals in between them in the league this season. The Blues could now make do with Konate, should they manage to sign him during the new year.
