Chelsea Reaches Pre-Agreement With £150k-A-Week Arsenal Target

According to reports, Chelsea are on the brink of reaching a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira. The report claims that Arsenal are no longer in the running to sign the World Cup winner after their interest cooled.

The 27 year old has constantly been the subject of speculations in the last few weeks as his contract enters it final months. He was close to joining Arsenal in the summer, after various reports claimed that his wage demands scuppered the possibility of Arsenal signing him at the time. It was thought that Arsenal would go in for him when his contract runs down as he is not expected to attract any transfer fee.

The news that he is set to agree a pre contract with Chelsea would see him reunite with his former manager at Real Madrid for three seasons Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese is believed to be a strong admirer of the German international during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, and his thought to want him on a free transfer as the Stamford Bridge outfit continues their recent trend of being financially prudent by adopting a conservative approach to spending due to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play Rules.

The former Stuttgart midfielder has been out since early September after he had an exploratory surgery on his left knee to repair a damage. He recently returned to training after being out for nearly seven weeks. His injury record has been one of the points put forward in various quarters as a reason while Arsenal are not keen to follow through with their interest in the German international. The German contingent at the Emirates should have been a factor in his decision to swap Madrid for North London, but it is looking likely that he could end up instead in West London if reports are anything to go by.

Several Arsenal fans saw their hopes raised at a the possibility of Sami Khedira joining Arsenal after the club’s legend Robert Pires mentioned in an interview that he was essentially the kind of player the club needs in midfield, and that he could bring his experience to bare in Arsenal’s middle of the park due to the young players currently in the setup. Few took the reference to the German by Robert Pires as a reason that he could have an insider knowledge that the club was in for him. However, the recent reports negate those assertions.

It remains to be seen how this ends up in the coming months.
