Chelsea To ANNOUNCE Signing Of Man United Target, Will Earn £75,000-A-Week

Chelsea are highly tipped to clinch the transfer of Stoke City goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic, according to the Daily Star. After it was confirmed that they would be selling their legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech to Arsenal, Chelsea swiftly earmarked Begovic as a replacement for the Czech.

Begovic, 28, is also a reported target for Man United as the Red Devils look to have given up on holding onto their coveted goalkeeper David De Gea, who is Real Madrid-bound.

Reports, however, suggest that Chelsea are leading United in the race to sign the £16 million-rated Premier League star. Blues boss Jose Mourinho sees Begovic as a perfect replacement for Cech and also a very good back-up for first-choice Thibaut Courtois.

Stoke City are also resigned to losing their No.1 goalkeeper, as they have shown keen interest in Aston Villa’s Shay Given. ESPN understands the Potters are close to the signing of the Ireland experienced safe hands to replace Begovic.

Also, according to the England U-21 goal tender, Jack Butland has returned to the club following a series of loan spells.

Begovic himself will be keen to play for Chelsea under Mourinho as he will love to win some trophies before calling time on his career. If this move is not trophy-motivated then, it appears awkward and odd why a goalkeeper of good quality like his would want to be back-up.

Nevertheless, the Chelsea faithful would be glad they have a goalkeeper with an excellent reputation to call on should Courtois suffer any injury or loss of form.

Knowing that the Red Devils are also in for Begovic, Mourinho will probably “up his game” in order to seal the the move for the Bosnia and Herzegovina shot stopper.

Although Asmir Begovic has been included in Stoke’s Barclays Asia Trophy Tour squad this summer, that will not stop Chelsea from completing their swoop for the Yugoslavia-born goalkeeper. They (the Blues) will only have to wait.

As per the Metro, Begovic has made more than 150 appearances for Stoke City, and has helped in the “consolidation of stoke as an established Premier League team.

He will reportedly earn £75,000 a week.
