Chelsea To Engage Man United & Barca In Bidding War For World Class Star

During the summer transfer market, Chelsea emerged as the only suitors for Everton’s John Stones – their desire to land the tough-tackling defender saw them tabled three different bids for the England international.

Stones has emerged as one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe and Chelsea would be joined in the race for his signature by Manchester United and Barcelona, and it seems that the most bullish clubs amongst his suitors will sign him, per Telegraph.

Barcelona interest stems from the recent comment made by Gerald Pique who revered Stones as world class defender. He said of Stones: “one of a new generation who understand football not just as a defender”.

It is understood that after Chelsea’s last bid of £30 million was rebuffed, the player handed the Toffees a transfer request but they yet refused on allowing the player go. It will take any club a record breaking deal to lure Stones out of Merseyside.

Manchester United were beaten to the signature of Pedro by Chelsea in the summer. For them to sign Stones, they may have to emulate Chelsea’s bullishness in the transfer market.

Blind has been made to play in the centre back position with Smalling – he is their only reliable centre back and any injury to him might impede their title challenge. United have the best defensive record in the League so far and Van Gaal must ensure he get Stones to keep up with the record.
