Jose Mourinho

Chelsea to hijack Mourinho’s first Man Utd deal for £24m superstar

Chelsea plan to beat Jose Mourinho in signing Andre Gomes from Valencia. The 22-year old central midfielder has been a target of many European clubs this summer, with Jose Mourinho making him his first transfer target when he takes over at Old Trafford.

However, Chelsea are already planning to sign the Portuguese for £24m ahead of Mourinho’s transfer plan. This notwithstanding, reports from various sources claim that the player has been offered to Jose, whichever club he goes.

Gomes currently plays for Valencia where he has scored one goal and made four assists in 27 La Liga appearances this season. He joined Valencia from Benfica in 2014. His current contract runs until 30.06.2020 but he is expected to follow his fellow countryman to the Old Trafford next season.

Gomes and Mourinho share the same agent, Jorge Mendes. This explains how easy it can be for the pair to move to Manchester United next season. Several changes are expected to occur at Manchester United, from the top to the bottom, with the current coach expected to be shown the exit door, even if he wins the FA cup.

United’s midfield has shown that it requires major reinforcements, with several midfielders out injured or simply out of form.
Manchester United and Chelsea are not the only teams interested in the promising midfielder. Juventus are also interested, and are willing to part with £24m to hire him. This gives the player several options to choose from and it will be interesting to see where he finally goes.
