Chelsea youth team mistake – Manchester United target let go because of his height

Luke Shaw is a Chelsea fan who started his career at the club’s development centre but was not offered an academy place.

“Seriously, I was let go because of my height,” he revealed. “It was only when I was about 14 or 15 I got taller and bigger. I remember the first day of my trial at Southampton I got a phone call straight away to say they wanted to take me on.”

Shaw is now set to make a move to rivals Manchester United after the World Cup for anything over £20 million. Shaw has replaced Ashley Cole, who was released by Chelsea today, in the England squad for this summer’s tournament in Brazil.
