Club’s CEO Gives Update on Alex Teixeira to Liverpool, Meanwhile Jurgen Klopp is Keen to Sign Talented Midfielder

After failing in their pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Alex Teixeira, Liverpool have switched their attention to Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes, according to reports. The 21-year-old AS Roma midfielder is currently on loan at Empoli and has impressed with his performances this season.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claims that Paredes has caught the attention of Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and the Premier League club are interested in signing him. Paredes has scored one goal and provided one assist for his side in 17 league appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of Alex Teixeira has collapsed after Shakhtar general director, Sergiy Palkin, has more or less confirmed that the player will be staying in Ukraine till summer.

On Friday, club’s CEO Sergiy Palkin told Ukrainian TV: “Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today. We will sell him only at the end of the season.

“We need to have some good results in the Europa League and the Ukraine championship. At the end of the season, we will sit down at the negotiating table. Teixeira has a compensation charge in his contract – the price is €70m (£53m). Please, if someone wants him – let them come and declare themselves.”
