Confident Wenger believes Gunners will beat Man City, stirs up controversy

€25m Star To Replace Mertesacker At Arsenal

Title race becomes more serious as Premier League heads into its second half. Currently, Leicester City heads the race at 35 points, with Arsenal and Manchester City trailing by two points and Manchester United holds 4th position with 29 points. League leaders, Leicester have lost only one match so far which was a 5-2 defeat against Gunners in September.

Arsene Wenger believes consistency is key in order to win the title this season. According to Arsenal’s official website, Wenger said in an interview, “It looks to be very tight.” “We have played 16 games and the top team is on 35 points, so it means that the Premier League could be decided at around 80 points.”

“If you look at the results it looks as though the consistency will be the main priority in this league because every week you are surprised by the results. We have really established a good run so for us it’s important to continue that.”

Wenger recognises it important to win against their main rivals in the race which is why Monday’s game at the Emirates against City is a crucial one. “It is a massive game [on Monday]”, Wenger said. “When we play at home you want to win because we are ambitious and we feel we have the chance to come out in a strong position after Christmas.”

“It will be a very tight game because if you look at the numbers since the start of the season, offensively and defensively the numbers are very close. Manchester City has huge individual potential with David Silva and Sergio Aguero coming back and so we will need a top, top-level team performance.”

Wenger recalled their meeting at Etihad in January last year and how Arsenal won with a clear 2-0 victory. He says having done so before, the players will be more confident and focused to attain an important victory over City. He said, “When you have never done it, people can tell you “you aren’t good enough, you aren’t good enough” but when you have done it, you know you can do it and that strengthens you. Of course it is important.”
