Chelsea are on the verge on completing their fifth signing of the season in form of Augsburg defender Abdul Baba Rahman. After the loss of Filipe Luis this transfer window, Chelsea were desperate for the addition of a left-back. The Blues were rumoured to be in race with PSG and Inter Milan for the signature of Galatasaray’s Alex Telles but it seems their interests cooled down as they turned their attention to Augsburg full-back Baba Rahman.
Augsburg were reported to have turned down Chelsea’s initial bid of about 14 million pounds as they regarded the offer not good enough for the 21 year old. However Chelsea responded with an improved offer for 17.7 million pounds which was too good for Augsburg to turn down.
Baba Rahman is expected to be a Chelsea player before they kick off their Premier League campaign this coming week. Rahman’s agent Emapcher has gone on to confirm that the deal is taking place in a bid to remove any doubts about the transfer. He said “Both clubs are still working on fine-tuning but we hope the agreement will be finalised soon,”. Having spent just one year at Augsburg, Baba Rahman’s performances alerted several clubs in Europe with the likes of Roma, Madrid , Arsenal all interested in the 21 year old. But Chelsea were victorious in the race to sign the Ghanaian Full-back.
