Confirmed – Ed Woodward Phones Club, Ready To Complete £300,000-A-Week Deal

Neymar was the star of the weekend, not only in Spain but across all European Leagues. The Selecao skipper banged in 4 goals during Barcelona’s game against Rayo Vallecano and for the first time since Messi’s ill-fated injury, the 23 year-old stepped up his game. He has been criticized heavily for his lack of dedication in games at times, as he would rather showboat than perform to the satisfaction of everybody.

Neymar has often been questioned for failing to perform up to expectations when its really needed for club and country, but his goals during the weekend kept critics quite, at least for now. Despite his perceived lack of professionalism seldom times, it cant be denied that he is one of the best players in the game at the moment. His place in the Ballon d’or 23-man shortlist proves that and puts his abilities beyond doubt.

It was such abilities that made United come for him during the Summer. And it was reported that the EPL giants were consistently trying to get a deal for his acquisition done all through the transfer window period. His father, Neymar Senior finally confirmed United’s interest and made what ensued clearer,

“They called Barcelona. They received an answer that Neymar had a contract with them and they wouldn’t sell him. People need to remain calm. Neymar still has three years of contract left.”

It was also revealed that United sporting director and vice president, Edward Woodward was often on the phone making calls to inquire of a possible deal. The Red Devils were willing to spend 70 million Pounds to lure the former Santos forward away from Nou Camp. But it fell through, yet there are plans to make a higher bid for his services come Winter. United are known for their persistence when it comes to making moves for star players’ signatures, as evident in the pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Muller. The club’s Sporting Director, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said of Ed’s constant pursuit of the Germany international,

“I told Woodward, I can’t switch off my e-mail account, so he should stop sending offers for Muller “

United won’t stop making offers for Neymar, even if he finally pens a new contract extension before Winter.
