CONFIRMED – Manchester United HELD Talks For £300,000-A-Week Star

While there were varying reports during the summer as to whether Manchester United made an approach to make Barcelona star Neymar Jr. a marquee signing, the Brazilian captain has shed light into the issue.

Neymar spoke for the first time about the Red Devils’ reported effort to sign him in the summer, revealing he was indeed in talks with the Red Devils over a switch to Old Trafford during the summer.

Following the sale of Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain during the summer, United boss Louis van Gaal was on the scour for a quick and creative attacker, and this made the Dutchman turn attentions to the Barcelona whizz, who is regarded as one of the best forward players in the world.

However, the Red Devils ended up signing £36m French teenager Anthony Martial from Monaco instead on transfer deadline day and the pacey forward has made a blistering start to life at Old Trafford, netting four goals and providing an assist in only five appearances, of which 2 were as a substitute.

Neymar, 23, would have commanded a fee as mammoth as £80m and would have also done as well as Martial, if not better.

“We had negotiations, but there was nothing concrete,” Neymar revealed to ESPN Brazil [per Sky Sports].

“I heard there were offers but none were made to me.”

Nevertheless, United are still reportedly working on potential January transfer targets and Neymar remains on their shortlist.

The Selecao star has scored 3 goals and claimed one assist in 5 games for Barcelona this season and for now, Neymar is focused on his career at the Nou Camp and is hoping to earn recognition as one of the best players in the world this year.

“I want to keep giving my all and evolve season to season. I hope I will be on the Ballon d’Or podium this year,” the former Santos star said.

Barcelona need Neymar now than ever as the club’s best player Lionel Messi has been sidelined with a knee injury, which will keep him out of action for 7 to 8 weeks, as per the Barcelona official website.
