Confirmed – Manchester United Set To Sign 29 Year Old Copa America Star

The worst kept secret of this transfer summer is finally out. David De Gea’s longing for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu is set to be sated soon as recent reports from the English and Spanish news outlets have indicated that an agreement between Manchester United and Real Madrid is on the cards.

United , as per Talksport , have seemingly identified Uruguayan International Fernando Muslera as the man to replace the soon to be departing 24-year-old Spaniard. The claims of former Czech Republic International defender Tomas Ujfalusi , who is the Uruguayan’s friend and former teammate at Galatasaray , go a long way towards confirming United’s interest in the 29-year-old goalkeeper.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Bugun , Ujfalusi was quoted as :

“I believe Manchester United are also interested in signing Muslera . If De Gea joins Real Madrid then Muslera could be their first choice.”

On his friend’s prospects of playing for the Old Trafford outfit ,he further stated :

“In my opinion , he will be very successful at Manchester United.”

Strong words indeed from someone who is considered a friend and a confidante of the Uruguayan International. There is never smoke without a fire , and on close consideration , United’s interest in the player actually makes sense , as Muslera has proven himself one of the safest pair of hands in Europe over the last few seasons , and has also been the subject of United’s interest in the past.

Despite Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek claiming that the player is not for sale , Louis Van Gaal looks all set to follow up the initial interest with a formal bid should De Gea depart for Madrid this summer.

The 24-year-old David De Gea , who has been United’s player of the season for the past two years running , will no doubt be a huge loss for the club , specially considering that they could have had another decade of his services between the sticks. However , with 72 caps for his national team , and still just 29, which is considered the prime for a goalkeepers , Muslera has the ability and the experience to prove an adequate replacement for the departing Spaniard.

Further news on this intriguing development is expected in the coming days , as Red Devils faithful all over are hoping that their club sign an able replacement as soon as possible.
