DONE – Arsenal Target Signs Four Years Deal For £24.6m, Will Earn £80,000-A-Week
After being linked with the signing of Porto’s Colombian striker, Jackson Martinez for better part of the summer window, Arsenal have finally missed out on the opportunity to sign the 28-year old, whose agent just confirmed that he has sealed a 4-year deal with Atletico Madrid of Spain.
Martinez, who earlier said he was waiting on the Gunners to trigger his release clause, will now finalise a 4-year deal to join the former La Liga champions immediately after the Copa America holding in Chile.
Speaking on the move, Martinez’s agent, Luiz Henrique Pompeo confirmed to Spanish radio network Cadena SER, that it was a done deal:
“It’s a done deal, everything is ready and he has a contract for four years.”
“Everyone knows he’s currently at the Copa America with his country, so we’ll have to wait before we see him in Madrid and his presentation will be postponed.”
On various rumours linking the player with a move to other clubs like Arsenal and AC Milan, Pompeo said:
The player has already spoken to Simeone,” and knows what is expected of him, added the agent.
“He’s delighted about the opportunity to play with Atletico. He had a lot of other options and he chose Atletico, which says a great deal.” Pompeo highlighted.
Though, there were no concrete proofs detailing Arsenal’s interest in the player, Martinez did grant an interview earlier where he reiterated his interest in joining the club; but all that appear to be in the past now as the Colombian is set to be an Atletico Madrid player.
