Done Deal – £30m Arsenal Targets Signs Four Years Deal, Will Earn £80,000-A-Week
Arsenal have been handed a demoralising blow in their pursuit of a forward this summer after Borussia Dortmund confirmed on its official website that their coveted striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang has been tied down to a new deal at the Bundesliga outfit.
The Gunners, along with London rivals Tottenham had been tailing the speedy forward this summer, with both clubs prepared to go over the £30m mark to land the 26-year old. Amidst the speculation surrounding his future, he has now signed a two year extension to his contract at the Westfalenstadion which will keep him at the BuLi club till 2020.
Aubameyand finished the season as Dortmund’s top scorer last term, with 25 goals in all competition – 16 in the league. His consistency over the years has constantly prompted interests from several European sides.
The former Milan and Saint Etienne striker revealed his delight at signing a new deal, saying he was never interested in leaving.
“I’m very happy at this club, in this team, and in this city. Dortmund has become like a second home to me,” said Aubameyang.
“Every part of me wants to be here and I’ve never wanted to leave.”
In the same vein, Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc was also happy that the Gabon international striker has committed another two years to serving the club.
“Auba has developed outstandingly. We are very happy that we have been happy to tie him down to a long-term contract.”
After today’s news, Arsenal will have to look to other attacking targets, with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Bayern Munich’s Lewandowski on the radar of the Wenger-led side.
