Monaco midfielder, Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco has landed in Spain to sign a deal with Atletico pending the successful completion of his medical examinations.
Belgian publication HLN had claimed on Thursday last week that both Atletico and Monaco have agreed the transfer of the Ligue 1 player, who will now end his 3-year association with his club (Marca).
Carrasco was a target for Arsenal before agreeing to join the Spanish club instead. The player was brought in by Diego Simeone to replace Arda Turan who joined Barcelona a week ago.
The Express claim the deal is valued to be around £10.7 million and Monaco will reportedly receive 25% of the transfer fee should the winger be sold on in the future, as per Spanish publication, Mundo Deportivo.
Atletico’s initial replacement for Turan was Nico Gaitan of Benfica but the deal fell through due to some unconfirmed details.
Manchester United are also interested in Gaitan as Van Gaal is resigned to losing winger, Angel Di Maria who was signed for a British record fee of £59.7 million last summer.
Arsenal were also thought to be interested in Carrasco who impressed and scored the last goal in the tie 3-0 defeat of the English club by Monaco in the Champions League round of 16 last term.
Carrasco made 36 appearances for Monaco last season, 33 as a starter, while contributing six goals and ten assists for the club who placed third in the Ligue 1 last term.
The 21-year old is expected to join his new team as they prepare to for their tour of Asia.
