Done Deal – Arsenal Target Arturo Vidal Deal Is Done, Will Wear Number 23
In the last few weeks, Arsenal have been linked to the signing of South America star, Arturo Vidal with various reports claiming the player has signed a five years deal with the gunners and announcement would be made at the end of the COPA America which ended last week.
Although this report was later denied by the likes of BBC’s David Ornstein and Jeremy Wilson of the telegraph but as they say, there is usually no smoke without fire and knowing Arsenal, all transfer businesses are done in top secrecy.
However, it does seem although the gunners may be interested in signing the player, it seems they have been beaten to his signing by 10 times champions league winner Real Madrid.
According to Spanish media out let El Mercurio, the Chilean has agreed to joined Real Madrid and Madrid are ready to pay Juve their Ā£35 million asking price. The report went further to claim the box to box midfielder who can also play in the centre of defense and as a defensive midfielder is going to wear jersey number 23 for the Los Blancos.
This will be bad news for Arsenal fans who desperately will like their club to sign the player, however, in my humble opinion, Vidal is not needed at Arsenal. He is a world class player but definitely not someone the gunners need. He is not a specialist DM even though he can play the role. Also, after having such a stellar season the last time out, it will be unfair to relegate Coquelin to the bench for someone like Vidal and I simply cannot see how Wenger will sign a player forĀ Ā£35 million and bench him. No chance.
If Arsenal is to sign a DM this summer ( which I doubt ), it is very likely going to be someone who will compete with Coquelin and not someone who will outright oust him from the first team.
