Done Deal – Chelsea Target Agrees To Sign, Announce Imminent

This transfer summer has seen a raft of stories linking Sevilla hitman to a host of top clubs , most notably Premier League giants Chelsea , Liverpool and Manchester United. The Colombian International was on fire last season, scoring 28 goals for the Spanish club and guiding them to the Europa League title. He was widely tipped to move to the Premier League. However, the player has himself put paid to all the rumours surrounding his future by allegedly accepting that he is close to securing a transfer to Italian giants AC Milan in the coming days.

The news will come as a big surprise as it was widely accepted that Milan were far behind in the race for signing the star striker as they had failed to secure any form of European football next season after finishing a dismal tenth in the league standings. However, it seems that hasn’t stopped them from landing a major coup on the transfer front in the form of Bacca, who, while talking to reporters, confirmed that he had reached an agreement with Milan and a move to the Serial A giants is soon in the offing.

After his agent Sergio Barila’s comments were aired over the weekend , revealing to Marca that the player had chosen to join the Rossoneri , Bacca himself reiterated :

“It has to be finalized and every day I am linked with a different club , but it is true that we reached an agreement with Milan. We spoke to them , my rrepresentative spoke to them and we have an agreement with Milan, that is the reality.”

He further added : “They are the club with 100 percent possibility of signing me, but nothing has been set in stone yet.”

The AS have reported that both clubs are yet to agree on a fee, with reports surfacing that Milan are ready to pay the buy-out clause of £21 million.

The news will come as a huge setback for Chelsea who were targeting the Colombian after missing out on his compatriot Jackson Martinez to Atletico Madrid. The Blues boss is on the lookout for a world class striker to supplement his strike force.

While they already have one in Diego Costa, they will do well if they can add another this summer as Costa’s hamstring problems have been well documented and he cannot be expected to get through an entire season without injury concerns. Loic Remy is nothing more than an able back up and comes nowhere near the top tier strikers in the world. With Mourinho looking to mount a genuine challenge on all fronts next season , he cannot be expected to rely solely on the flailing hamstring of the Spaniard, and Didier Drogba’s departure means that the Blues are facing adearth of options up front.

This was the reason why the Blues were actively seeking to bring in Bacca to provide additional fire power to help them conquer Europe next season, and his impending move to Milan leaves Mourinho and us Chelsea fans in a bit of conundrum.

The club has no lack of funds. The problem, however , stems from the fact that not many top strikers are available and those that were, are already close to signing for someone else. Mandzukic has signed for Juventus, and so has Dybala. Meanwhile, Luciano Vietto has joined Jackson Martinez in moving to Atletico. Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to leave Bayern. Aguero is ungettable and Tevez is off to Boca Juniors.

Firmino has already signed for Liverpool.

Apart from these, others like Griezmann, Sterling , etc that have been linked to the Blues are more in the mold of a support striker or wide forward than a striker. Chelsea supporters like me will be ruing missing out on Bacca because if anything happens to Costa mid way through the next season , Chelsea may have to make do with Remy , who, for all his qualities , has never been an answer in Costa’s absence.
