Done Deal – Chelsea Target Signs After Successful Medical

Aston Villa striker, Christian Benteke has completed his move to Liverpool after the Belgian successfully underwent a medical in London last night, as per Express.

Benteke has been linked with a move away from the Villa Park throughout the summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea also showing interests.

Manchester United appeared closest to landing Benteke but Louis van Gaal seems to have other plans, considering the £32.5 million valuation of the Belgian should not be a problem.

Having baulked at Aston Villa’s asking price for the player in the past, Brendan Rodgers has now decided to spend out of the £49 million received from Man City for the sale of Raheem Sterling.

Liverpool’s striker issue is now set to with incessant injuries to Daniel Sturridge and the inconsistencies plus loss of form of Mario Balotelli costing the Reds dearly last term.

Rickie Lambert who also joined from Southampton last summer failed to live up to expectations, as the Anfield club crashed out at the group stage level of the UEFA Champions League finished below the top six in the English Premier League.

Having signed six players already this summer, Benteke is expected to be the seventh Reds’ signing and will represent a huge boost to the team.

James Milner, Adam Bogdan, Nathan Clyne, Roberto Firmino, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez have all arrived  to cover for virtually every positions in the team. The Belgian powerhouse will now be expected to lead the line for the Kops in the 2015-16 season.

Benteke’s sale will be another big blow to Aston Villa who recently lost captain and influential player, Fabian Delph to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has voiced his opinion regarding the move, thereby sending out a strong title message to rivals.

As per Express, Toure said the addition of Benteke to the squad could make the Anfield club an unstoppable force next term.

“Benteke is a great player and it is much better to have him on my side than have to play against him,” the Ivorian told Liverpool Echo.

“He’s so strong and powerful – we all know about his qualities. He’s a goalscorer but his mental strength is very important.

“Benteke isn’t weak, he stands up for himself. No matter what happens on the pitch, he will perform. The club has done some unbelievable business this summer and it’s going to be a big season for us.

“I see so much talent in the squad. So much will be played in the mind.

“If we are strong mentally I don’t think anyone can beat us with the team the manager has built.”

Benteke is strong in the air and has great hold-up ability, which will hugely help the Reds next term. Good business for Liverpool, I think.
