Few months back, reports has it that Chelsea are on the verge of signing Sami Khedira on a cheap 6 million deal from Real Madrid. It was said Jose Mourinho wants the player at stamford Bridge having coached him whille he ( Mourinho ) was still the manager of Real Madrid.
It was said then that Mourinho wants the German as a back up option to Matic who is currently Chelsea’s only defensive midfielder. However, that won’t be happening, at least not this summer, this is because Khedira has gone on to sign for Juventus on a free transfer and will reportedly earning £55,000 a week but with a big sign on fee and a 100% right to his own image rights.
This is surely a blow to Chelsea’s transfer aspiration. However, considering the age of Khedira and his tendency to get injured and be ruled out for several weeks or even months, I don’t think Chelsea have really missed much here.
At 31, I do not think Khedira still has a lot left in him to offer and Chelsea be well served if they go for someone younger and less injury prone.
