Dortmund Finds Replacement For Liverpool Bound Marco Reus

A few days ago, the rumors were that Marco Reus will be heading to Man City, but now reports are starting otherwise, that he will instead be heading to Liverpool. Of course the world of football thrives on these stories and year after year, stories are spread around and fans are left to hope, and dream. Sometimes these stories turn out true and sometimes they don’t. But it’s the excitement that is created that stays with the fans who are left to wonder what might have been.

Marco Reus is a player who has been generating loads of interest from big teams around Europe, and he is worth the attention. He is blessed with speed, versatility and technique and has put in eye catching performances for his club Dortmund. The German international who missed the world cup last summer due to injury, started out in the youth academy of his present club Dortmund, before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach and 3 years later he moved back to Dortmund and since has made 63 appearances and scored 31 goals. He made the UEFA team for the year 2013, and was voted “Borussia Dortmund Player of the Year 2013-14”.  Various clubs were reported interested in him during the summer but due to his injury and his club’s unwillingness to sell, they couldn’t sign him. But, the situation has changed, with Reus refusing to sign a new contract. And since his value is expected to drop next summer, Dortmund is willing to hear offers for him and they are already said to have targeted Javier Pastore as his replacement. This development means they are resigned to losing him.

News filtering in now, has it that Liverpool are offering him a £200,000 a week contract which is triple what he currently earns and it is said that all that is left is for both clubs to agree a fee. This is good news for Liverpool fans, as Reus is a top talent. However, if Liverpool were to sign him, they will be drawing the wrath of UEFA, in relation to FFP rules. Already, they are said to be under investigation, and we have to take into account the amount they spent in the summer, with over €100 million pound spent, and this might not allow the club to try to sign him right now. Even City who can afford him are presently limited in their transfer spend due to FFP ban.

However, if Liverpool should sign him successfully, then they would have pulled a coup on other teams, this is because he will be a big name signing and there is nothing fans love more than seeing a big name sign for their team and produce the goods. His performance for Liverpool will certainly be decisive, especially if they were to get him in the January transfer window. This is because presently, Liverpool is not living up to expectations, and the team is struggling to win matches. His addition will bring flair to the team which was ever present when Suarez was present last season, but has since ebbed.
