Drop Rubbish Ivanonic For Arsenal Clash, Carragher Advises Jose Mourinho

Ahead of the Arsenal-Chelsea clash, Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher might have voiced out the opinions of many, as he suggests that playing Chelsea defender Ivanovic against Arsenal will be a risk. The Serbian has been a stand out performer for Chelsea since his arrival but this season, the 31 year old has been nothing short of awful and was dropped in Chelsea’s Champions League clash on Wednesday. An out-of-form Ivanovic pit against Alexis Sanchez is considered as suicide by Jamie Carragher.

He said: “Ivanovic is a different case and Mourinho should drop him at Stamford Bridge. The full back made a fair point after the defeat by Everton that Chelsea’s problems should not be blamed solely on their defence — they have not been given great protection by the midfield — but his form has been poor.“ Could Mourinho really risk him at right back against Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal’s best player, who will be running at him from the left flank? Cesar Azpilicueta — Chelsea’s best defender — would be a far better choice, with Baba Rahman slotting in at left back.

“Rahman would be left to face Aaron Ramsey but he wouldn’t be getting the same kind of examination that Sanchez provides. He won’t have much one-against-one defending to do for the first hour of what will be an intriguing afternoon.” The former Liverpool man also went on to select Cesar Azpilicueta as the best defender in Chelsea.

However the reverse is the case for Ivanovic, who has been seen as an easy target by opposition attackers. Ivanovic’s dwindling form could see Mourinho make a bold call in his starting line-up against Arsenal however there are talks and doubts on if Rahman can handle the pressure of being started against Arsenal.
