€30m Arsenal Target Arrives For Medical, Set To Sign For Chelsea, Will Earn £65,000-A-Week

At long last it seems Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Baba Abdul Rahman from Augsburg. The 21 year Ghanaian full-back’s transfer took an unnecessary long amount of time and was starting to look like the deal would fall through. Chelsea should have drafted in a replacement for Filipe Luis within days of losing the Brazilian defender to Atletico Madrid.

However a compromise has been reached between Augsburg and Chelsea. With personal terms and transfer fee agreed, all that is left is a medical to finalise the deal. The deal is expected to cost Chelsea a total 20 million pounds, with 14 million pounds expected to be paid upfront and the rest covered up with add- ons.

Despite joining Augsburg just last year from second tier club Greuther Furth for €2.5m, the 21 year old impressive performances for Augsburg last season caught the eye of many potential buyers in Europe. The 21 year old made more tackles  (108) than any other player in the Bundesliga last season.

Abdul Baba Rahman will be hoping to pose more of a challenge for Azpilicueta than Filipe Luis did. Augsburg Coach Markus Weinzerl had some few things to say ahead of Rahman’s impending move. He said “I would like to continue working with all players, but when you sign someone like Baba from the second division and he’s on Chelsea’s radar 12 months later, it does make the coaching staff proud.”
