Ed Woodward Strikes Again, CB On The Way To Old Trafford

After a phenomenal 2014/2015 campaign with Valencia, Argentina center back, Nicolas Otamendi has a host of top European sides going to battle for his signature with Manchester the most likely destination.

After the conclusion of the 2014/2015 Premier League campaign, it became apparent that Manchester United had two massive holes to fill in their squad. Their porous defence and disjointed midfield were serious inhibitors to their new style under Louis van Gaal.

Chief executive, Ed Woodward has swiftly acted this summer by acquiring the services of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger from Southampton and Bayern Munich respectively but their attempts at acquiring the services of a strong center back to reinforce their backline has been futile. After previous links to Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Pepe not materialising, they have set about luring the hottest central defender in La Liga to Old Trafford.

Nicolas Otamendi capped his sensational season at the Mestalla with 6 goals in 35 league appearances whilst averaging 2.9 tackles, 3.1 interceptions, an outstanding 7.3 clearances and 3.5 aerial duels per match.

United have been facing stiff competition from their local rivals Manchester City but The Daily Star have reported that United are set to announce the capture of the 6 foot central defender. They cite Spanish media outlet, SillaGol, who claim that Spanish journalist, Nacho Cotino has seen legal documents and tax statements about the deal thus hinting that a transfer is imminent. The deal is assumed to be £35 million as it activates his release clause.
