Famous Liverpool Fans and Celebrities That Support LFC

As the most successful club in the history of English football, it is fair to say that Liverpool have picked up more than a few famous fans over the years. The Reds have enjoyed numerous periods of success, with that that started in the 1970s and lasted until the start of the 1990s being the most notable. Although some supporters of the club may well be more fair-weather than genuine, there are plenty of well-known names who consider themselves to be active lovers of the club and get along to games on a regular basis.

The list here isn’t exhaustive, but it will give you a sense of the big names that love the Merseyside club.

Jason Isaacs

Those that look up the names of famous Liverpool supporters don’t have to wait for long before they’ll say hello to Jason Isaacs, with the actor being such a lover of the Reds that the BBC asked him to voice their documentary about the club winning the English top-flight title for the first time in 30 years back in 2020.

Known for his work in everything from Armageddon to the Harry Potter series, via The West Wing and White Lotus, Isaacs was born in Liverpool and grew up in the area before moving away to find his fame and fortune on both big and small screens.

Daniel Craig

James Bond is one of the best-known characters in fiction, with several different actors portraying the spy on film. One of those was Daniel Craig, who helped to revitalise the franchise in the wake of Pierce Brosnan’s time in the tuxedo.

Having grown up on the Wirral, Craig was a Liverpool supporter from a young age, first stepping foot onto the Kop when he was about five years old and falling in love with the Reds from that moment on. As one of the most recognisable actors in the world, he might be one of the only people as famous as the football club itself in that sense.

Millie Bobby Brown

Having made her name as Eleven in the Netflix series Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown became a global superstar. Although many might think that she’s little more than a famous person who attaches her name to Liverpool because of the cachet of doing so, the truth is a little more complex.

She grew up in a home of Liverpool fans, with her family soon doing whatever they could in order to indoctrinate her into the ways of the club. She has even been to Anfield in the past, though more often than not she’s getting up in the early hours in order to watch the matches in the US.

Will Arnett

Fans of the TV show Arrested Development will know exactly who Will Arnett is, whilst others might recognise his voice from the likes of the LEGO Batman movies. What not everyone will be aware of is the fact that Arnett is a big Liverpool fan, starting to follow the club after having watched them play in the Champions League with his writing partner.

He did an interview with The Anfield Wrap, an LFC-themed fan podcast, in which he talked about his love of the Reds and how he has attempted to persuade his kids to get on board with supporting the Merseyside club.

Calvin Harris

Better known as being a DJ who has produced hits with the likes of Amy Winehouse and Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris’ credentials as a Liverpool fan were confirmed when he was asked to spin the decks on the open-top bus parade around the city in the wake of the Reds’ League Cup and FA Cup wins in 2022.

Although he’s also a fan of Queen of the South, from his native Scotland, it is fair to say that Liverpool are the club that is closest to his heart. The song One Kiss that he produced with Dua Lipa also became something of an unofficial anthem for supporters of the club.

Damien Lewis

When it comes to Liverpool, the club has spent billions on transfer fees over the years. It is somewhat fitting, therefore, that the star of the TV show Billions, Damien Lewis, is a supporter of the Reds. Although he was born in London, he began supporting Liverpool largely on account of the club’s success in the 1970s and 1980s when he was growing up.

You shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that he’s just a glory hunter, however, with the actor having been to Anfield numerous times and also heading out to Kyiv in 2018 when the Reds lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid.

Mike Myers

Scousers are well known for being funny, which is probably part of what Mike Myers got from his family, who were from the Old Swan area of the city. The result of that was that Myers was taught to be a Liverpool supporter from an early age, learning everything about what it means to be a Red.

The So I Married an Axe Murderer and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery star fell in love with the club and has been a guest of honour at Anfield numerous times. He has even been seen in Carragher’s Bar in New York, watching the game alongside fellow passionate Liverpool fans.

Sanjeev Bhaskar

Comedian, television presenter and actor Sanjeev Bhaskar grew up in West London and decided to ignore the pleas of his friends to follow in their footsteps and support Chelsea. Instead, he went against the grain and began following Liverpool, largely thanks to the fact that the club played in his favourite colour.

What might have seemed like a silly reason to begin supporting a football team soon led to a lifelong love affair with the country’s most successful side. When he had a son, Bhaskar worked hard to persuade him to start following the Reds too, taking him to Anfield numerous times.

John Lithgow

When Liverpool FC were taken over by Fenway Sports Group in the wake of the disastrous reign of Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., one of the people involved in the takeover was Tom Werner. Werner was friends with the actor John Lithgow, who made his name in Third Rock From the Sun and will soon be Professor Dumbledore in the reworked Harry Potter TV series.

Werner soon persuaded Lithgow to start following the Reds and he did just that, falling in love with not just the club but the people and the area, visiting Anfield as a guest of Werner after the takeover.

Brandon McCarthy

Whether or not you’ve heard of Brandon McCarthy will almost certainly depend on your level of interest in baseball as a sport. His career in the major leagues began with the Chicago White Sox before also playing for the Texas Rangers, the Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees, amongst others.

He fell in love with Liverpool after watching Steven Gerrard score a screamer of a goal against Olympiakos during the 2004-2005 Champions League campaign, heading to Anfield a number of times since then and doing what he can to watch the Reds play whenever possible.

John Oliver

Although he was born in Birmingham, John Oliver is about as passionate a Liverpool fan as you could hope to meet. The host of Last Week Tonight isn’t just a Red in the sense that he loves the club either, he’s also very much someone who has the same kind of political and cultural beliefs as the club’s supporters.

His mum was from Knotty Ash, whilst his dad was from the Wirral, so supporting the club wasn’t a choice as much as something he was forced to do from an early age. The lifelong Red’s sense of humour was very much born of Merseyside, earning him fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
