Finally A DM? Wenger Keen On High Rated & Powerful 6ft 5″ Midfielder

Arsenal are looking to introduce a bit more steel to their midfield and are interested in Celtic’s Nir Bitton, who the North London clubs have sent scouts to monitor, the Metro understand.

The Gunners were linked with several defensive midfielders including Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak, Lars Bender of Bayer Leverkusen, Victor Wanyama of Southampton and Paris Saint Germain duo of Marco Verratti and Adrien Rabiot during the summer, but boss Arsene Wenger decided against signing any of them as he was impressed and satisfied with Francis Coquelin, as per the report.

Now the Evening Times [cited by the Metro] think Wenger could deviate from this stance by trying to sign Bitton.

The Metro say Arsenal scouted the 23-year old during Celtic’s recent Europa League match against Fenerbahce, although it is unlikely the Scottish giants will let the Israeli international leave before the end of the season.

As an Israeli citizen, Bitton was conscripted to the Israeli Defence Forces, but the Celtic midfield man has since completed his mandatory stint with the military.

Should Arsenal manage to sign Bitton, he will be a suitable back-up for Coquelin in case the French player gets injured or faces suspension.
