Finally A Reliable Defender? Man United Bid For £70,000-A-Week UCL Quarter Finalist
Premier League defending Champions Chelsea have reportedly made a bid for Manchester United target Gregory Van Der Wiel. The Dutch full-back has one more year left in his contract and it is belived that PSG are not keen on renewing the 27 year old’s contract. The French club have both Serge Aurier and Marquinho available to fill in the right-back slot and will definitely not miss the 27 year old. With PSG clearly looking to offload Wiel it means the Blues can snap him up for a very cheap price.
Van Der Wiel has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United throughout this transfer window but it seems Chelsea are the front runners to land the Dutch full-back. With Branislav Ivanovic gradually ageing, Jose Mourinho is desperate to provide cover for the Serbian International at right back.
The Portuguese manager will be hoping to ease the 31 year old out of the team while easing Van Der Wiel into the team. Chelsea have made four signings so far this window and will be looking to make Van Der Wiel their fifth or sixth signing on the window depending on the situation of Abdul Baba Rahma’s transfer to Chelsea. However Chelsea will have to do whatever it takes to pip Manchester United to sign Gregory Van Der Wiel. Despite signing Matteo Darmian from Torino, it is believed that Louis Van Gaal would not mind adding a back-up cover for the Italian with Valencia expected to be converted back as a winger.
