Five Talking Points from Arsenal vs. Southampton: Cazorla Desperately Missing, Walcott Out of Form, Wenger Needs to Act

Arsenal failed to register a win in the fourth consecutive league game. The goalless draw with Southampton at Emirates Stadium left them stranded at the fourth spot in the league table.

It was also the third consecutive game where the Gunners failed to score.

Here are the five main talking points from Arsenal’s perspective.

1) Arsenal are misfiring

The Gunners have failed to score a goal in their last three league games. They had 11 shots on target, but they failed to find the net against the Saints.

They need to start being efficient in front of the goal soon if they want to sustain their league challenge.

2) The midfield axis of Flamini and Ramsey just doesn’t work

Arsenal failed to move the ball quickly from their midfield. They are missing the early-season trickery of Santi Cazorla in their midfield. The sooner the Spaniard gets fitter, the better it will be for the Gunners’ title hopes.

3) Theo Walcott failed to make an impact

The speedster came on as a 62nd-minute sub and managed only two successful passes during his time on the pitch. He also shot an easy chance straight into Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

He has a habit of disappearing from games, and this was another one of those occasions. Early-season form looks like a thing from distant past.

4) Alexis Sanchez is fit and back

The Chilean has finally fully recovered from his injury. He failed to change the outcome of the game, but his link up play with Ozil was visible on a number of occasions.

A fit and hungry Sanchez bodes well for the Gunners title run-in.

5) Arsene Wenger has to stop the rot. Quick!

Arsene Wenger has to stop the run of disappointing results. They are already five points behind the leaders Leicester City and local rivals Tottenham have also moved ahead of them in the league table.

The Gunners can’t afford to drop any more points!
