Former England Manager Luring Chelsea First-Team Star to China, Players Representative Speaks on the Transfer

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has turned down an opportunity to move to Chinese club Shanghai SIPG. Shanghai SIPG are currently managed by former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson and were willing to offer £3 million yearly wages to the 28-year-old.

The Chinese club have made a transfer bid of six million pounds, but it has been turned as the player intends to see out his current contract with the Blues.

“Yes, it is true that Shanghai SIPG made a bid for Mikel but Chelsea say he is not for sale and want him to see out his contract,” a representative of Mikel told allnigeriasoccer.com.

“He has to obey Chelsea but plans to hold further talks with them at the end of the season.”

After playing a squad role in the Chelsea team for quite some time, Mikel has cemented his spot in the Chelsea’s starting eleven following the arrival of Guus Hiddink.
