Four Man United Players Who Must Prove Themselves Worthy Of The Shirt Against CSKA Moscow Tonight
The Red Devils have a crunch tie to play against Russian outfit CSKA Moscow tonight and in all fairness, all of the Manchester United starters have been somewhat inconsistent this term – bar David De Gea, Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling.
They will now be looking to impress against CSKA later tonight, but four of them, especially, will need to be at their utmost best against Leonid Slutsky’s side this evening.
1. Wayne Rooney:
Yes, you guessed right! So far this season, the Manchester United skipper has been a far cry from what he used to be and his position in the team is at a great risk if he does not start putting up impressive displays. Rooney, 30, will be looking to silence critics when he leads the Red Devils onto the pitch tonight.
Although at 30, he may not be as lethal as he used to be, but he can find inspiration from Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovich who continue to find the back of the net even in their 30s.
2. Anthony Martial:
The French teenager has been a hit since joining United on deadline day for £36m, bagging 5 goals in his first nine games for Louis van Gaal’s side. But since scoring against CSKA in the first leg of the encounter, he has since failed to find the back of the net.
Although Martial has not stopped putting together impressive performances, but finding the back of the net has been the problem. And tonight against the Russian side, the former Monaco ace will want to resume his goalscoring feat for the Old Trafford club.
3. Juan Mata
The former Chelsea attacker was so impressive for United in the first two months of the season that he was named the club’s player of the month for September. But his performances has somewhat dipped and youngster Jese Lingard could dislodge him from the starting XI if the Spaniard does not improve.
4. Matteo Darmian
The Italian right-back started the season in terrific form, but he has failed to impress in recent times and Antonio Valencia has been seen playing in the right-back role either as a starter or a substitute.
Darmian was woeful against Crystal Palace at the weekend, but must perform wonderfully tonight if he is to warm himself back into the heart of van Gaal.
